The Beauty in Brokenness: Our Future Home at 6 S. Main
Tucked into the heart of historic downtown Fort Scott, Kansas, our future home at 6 S. Main is more than just a building — she’s a survivor. She is the definition of beauty in brokenness. With over a century under her belt, her frame has weathered storms, sagging roofs, faded wallpaper, and shifting time. And yet, she still stands — moody, strong, and absolutely stunning.
A Legacy Woven Through Time
She’s worn many hats in her lifetime. From bustling department store Calhoun’s to an antique shop and more, this space has always carried stories. She's been a staple of Fort Scott’s downtown — watching generations come and go, businesses rise and fall, and history unfold right outside her windows.

Returned to Her Roots
When we first stepped into 6 S. Main, she was weary, but not forgotten. We gently peeled back the layers — not to erase her past, but to honor it. Years of plaster, wallpaper, and patchwork were carefully removed to reveal the heart of who she’s always been: timeless stone walls, rich wood, and a strength that’s never wavered.
Her revival has been full of grit and grace:
- We replaced sunken-in trusses and a collapsing roof to help her rise strong again.
- We reinforced her structure, all while preserving the soul woven into every corner.
- And we’re blending her storied past with a vision for what’s to come — a space full of life, warmth, and intention.
She's Moody, She's Strong, She's Stunning
There's something poetic about her. One moment she feels quiet and mysterious — the next, sunlight spills through her windows and dances across the stone. Her imperfections tell a story. Her cracks are proof that she has endured. She doesn’t need to be flawless to be breathtaking.
What She Represents
Restoring 6 S. Main isn’t about starting over — it’s about bringing back the beauty that was always there. It’s about honoring her foundation while giving her new purpose. We’re creating a place where history and heart can coexist — where dreams can be built on old bones made strong again.
This space is being readied for the next hundred years — to serve, to inspire, and to remind us that restoration is always possible.

From Her Walls to Your Heart
“I hadn’t been forgotten — not fully. But I was unraveling, piece by piece. Dust settling into my corners, time tugging at my bones. Until they walked in. Until I felt her. A whisper in the stillness. A softness, a strength, a knowing. I wasn’t abandoned — I was being kept, gently, for this. For her.”
